Flat Design vs Long Shadow Design Trends
Two competing trends and like all trends — these two design techniques may be short lived on the web in 2014. Where flat design (just as it is stated) reflects solid colors and flat images, long shadow design attempts to add a bit of depth by creating an extended shadow to flat objects. All hoping this will go out of style like the 80’s.
Layered Parallax Scrolling
An added element for adding a bit of visual storytelling to your site’s design. We are expecting to see more of this technique used in 2014.
Video Backgrounds
Without any question this adds eye candy to your website. There is still a large amount of improvements necessary on the home-front in regards to bandwidth limitations, but there’s a ton of opportunity on the front of web video backgrounds.
Larger Fonts
No we are not all getting older, but larger fonts will continue to take over the horizon of web design. So time to dust off that old typography book you used in type class and get acquainted to bringing type to life in your web designs.
CSS 4.0
CSS is expanding faster then browsers and their users are willing to upgrade. Lets all admit, there are still those who have not upgraded their browsers to accommodate for CSS3.
Content is Still King
Content still sells and is still the highest indexed portion of your site. With that said, designers will start to become more strategic with their “optimized content” through creative storytelling.
